Your Guide to Living in South Carolina


Often referred to as the “Palmetto State,” South Carolina is rich with history, culture, culinary delights, education, and a robust economy. Living in South Carolina Means Great Weather Year-Round

South Carolina offers residents great weather year-round. While the summers can be hot, most of the year is extremely comfortable with very mild winters. In fact, along the coastal areas, the average temperature during the winter is around 60 degrees during the day! This great weather gives South Carolina residents the opportunity to enjoy a lot of time outdoors.

Living in South Carolina Means Access to Beaches, Mountains, and Everything in Between

Many folks don’t realize this, but South Carolina is home to one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the United States. South Carolina is home to hundreds of miles of hiking trails, scenic waterfalls, a 7,656 acre man-made lake that offers boating and more, and Sassafras Mountain which stands at 3,554 feet tall. From Sassafras, you can see four states including Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

South Carolina is best known for its coastal communities including Charleston, Beaufort and Myrtle Beach. These ocean-front towns offer residents and guests plenty of fun things to do including watersports, shopping, dining, fishing and more! One of the best parts is the culinary scene. Lowcountry cooking, which is inspired by a blend of French and West African culinary traditions, is everywhere in South Carolina. So, get your taste buds ready!

South Carolina is a logistical powerhouse with a strong highway and rail system as well as the South Carolina Ports Authority. Situated halfway between Miami and New York City, South Carolina has a booming advanced manufacturing, aerospace, agribusiness, and life sciences economy which is driving the state as a national leader in innovation for the 21st Century.

The state has also invested heavily in workforce training through its readySC program which has helped match over 300,000 residents with training opportunities for local employers throughout South Carolina. South Carolina is a state rich in history. From Fort Sumter to the Upcountry History Museum, residents and tourists alike flock to South Carolina for its incredible Revolutionary War and Civil War history.

Some of the most significant historical stops include Boone Hall Plantation, the Summerville Dorchester Museum, and the Historic Charleston Foundation. South Carolina offers residents a low cost of living compared with neighboring states. In fact, most major expenses are around 13 percent less in South Carolina than the national average.
