Local Showcase: Why We Love Severna Park, Maryland

Severna Park, MarylandAs part of an ongoing series on the Insights Blog, we’re taking a look at and celebrating the communities in which we live and work. It’s an opportunity for us to highlight the areas that we find so special and the places in which we choose to be a part of. After all, we believe that it’s how you live that matters and communities we call home are a big part of our lives.

Severna Park, a part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area, is located 8 miles north of Annapolis. Celebrities including movie star Robert Duvall and Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak are from Severna Park, and the area is known for its water culture. It’s no surprise that Severna Park and Annapolis are referred to as the Sailing Capital of the World because residents can be seen sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and splashing in the water during the warmer months.

Severna Park and Annapolis are also rich in American history. Since 1845, The United States Naval Academy has prepared officers of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, and can be found in the area. The tours are very interesting and you can stop by the final resting place of Revolutionary War naval hero John Paul Jones. The Naval Academy Museum is also on the campus and includes two floors-worth of world-class exhibits covering the history of the Naval Academy and the U.S. Navy.

There are tons of shopping districts, including Downtown Annapolis, Westfield Annapolis Mall, Arundel Mills Mall, and Town Centre. The historic district shows the area’s diverse heritage with the stunning historic homes and shops. Sandy Point State Park, a 786 acre park in Severna Park, offers fishing, crabbing, boating, hiking and more. In January, the park also hosts the annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge, where participants run into the Chesapeake Bay to raise money for Special Olympics.

Severna Park is a special place to live and is home to Spring Arbor of Severna Park, our newest senior living community. Offering specialized assisted living and memory care, the community offers residents and loved ones care and comfort they deserve. Our residents love the area because there’s so much to do! Plus, many of our residents and team members grew up in Severna Park and surrounding areas.

Spring Arbor of Severna Park was our first senior living community in Maryland and we’re thrilled for lots of growth in the state over the next 18 months. We’re planning to bring four new Spring Arbor communities to Maryland in Crofton, Olney, Laurel, and Frederick. What can we say, we love Maryland! Stay tuned for more details on these exciting communities.

We’re thankful to have amazing team members and residents in Severna Park and are excited to continue serving as an engaged community partner in this amazing city!
