Local Showcase: Why We Love Columbia, South Carolina

As part of an ongoing series on the Insights Blog, we’re taking a look at and celebrating the communities in which we live and work. It’s an opportunity for us to highlight the areas that we find so special and the places which we choose to be a part of. After all, we believe that it’s how you live that matters and the communities we call home are a big part of our lives. Columbia, South Carolina

This month’s Local Showcase takes us to Columbia, the state capital of South Carolina. Home to the University of South Carolina and the site of Fort Jackson, the largest US Army installation for Basic Combat Training, the area is full of rich history and tradition. This city displays tons of Gamecock pride and football is a large component of the local culture. If you’re lucky, you may catch South Carolina Gamecocks fan and lead singer of Hootie & The Blowfish, Darius Rucker, at some of the games!

There is always something to do in Columbia. The metropolitan area features dozens of museums, parks, performance venues, collegiate sports, and tons of shopping. The Five Points neighborhood is a favorite spot and showcases many locally owned businesses including home furnishings, clothing, and eclectic artwork. What draws people to the city is the climate with warm summers and mild winters. The average temperature in November is in the low 70s!

It’s no surprise why residents at our Abberly Village Apartment Homes love living in Columbia. Residents enjoy the beautiful scenery, amazing universities, and many outstanding attractions that are nearby. Columbia boasts many outdoor activities, a great dining scene, top-rated school systems, shopping, and more.

We are thankful to have so many awesome team members and residents in Columbia and we are excited to continue serving as an engaged community partner in this amazing city!
