On Monday, May 25, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy the freedoms we do today. Memorial Day is an opportunity to remember the brave people who laid down their lives on behalf of the citizens of the United States of America.
Originally known as Decoration Day, the exact origins of Memorial Day are unclear. It began as a way to honor those who died during the American Civil War. Towns and cities across the country paid tribute to the fallen by decorating their graves with flowers and U.S. flags. In 1971, Congress declared the last Monday in May as Memorial Day.
From the unofficial start of summer to a day synonymous with Veterans appreciation, Memorial Day has taken on several meanings over the years. It is important to remember the true meaning of this day and to reflect on its importance.
On behalf of everyone at HHHunt, we wish you and yours a Happy and Safe Memorial Day weekend.
